It's Not Too Late for Your End of the Year Giving
"Hearing my deepest concerns aloud with an audience was like listening to my heartbeat over a loudspeaker. I felt alive and adult, powerful and vulnerable." These words were spoken by professional playwright Karen Hartman, who recently wrote about her experience as a young writer with Playwrights Project in the 1980s. Karen commended our continued work lifting the voices of those who too often go unheard, "Dialogue is the work. I don't know what could be more urgent right now."
These words were ringing in my ears last week during our performance in a men's prison, when two playwrights one black, one white stood side-by-side on the stage and shared diametrically opposing viewpoints, then after the performance crossed the room to hug each other.
Thank you for your donation and for expanding the reach of this important work.

Playwriting changing lives at North County Technology and Science Blended Academy
Our teaching artist Albert Park has been working with students at NCTSA for one month and has made an incredible impact! This past week, students saw their words come to life in a mid-session performance featuring Playwrights Project actors Cortez Johnson and Maelyn Gandola. The young writers received critiques from the artists and classmates so they can finalize their pieces for presenting at their next Student Exhibition. When asked how it felt to see his play performed live, student Ian said, "It was breathtaking." We are so proud of our teaching artists and actors for touching the lives of these students. Keep writing, NCTSA!
