ABOUT LÓPEZ:
López is a notable writer, producer, and performer of both stage and screen. In 1987, she won the 3rd annual California Young Playwrights Contest with her play Simply Maria, or The American Dream. She later wrote the 1990 play Real Women Have Curves, a critically acclaimed play centered around Latin American women working in a sewing factory in east Los Angeles. A subsequent film adaptation released in 2002 received the Special Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival. 20 years later, the story was adapted into a musical that debuted on Broadway in April of 2025, and received two Tony nominations. López is also the Artistic Founding Director of CASA 0101, a Los Angeles-based arts organization dedicated to providing space for art exhibits, theater productions, and arts education classes.
